Motorcycle Accidents
Motorcycle accidents occur frequently in Calgary, and riders are particularly vulnerable to the negligent actions of other motorists. In fact, motorcyclists are significantly more likely to suffer serious injury or death in a collision compared to other drivers.
Murray Bodnaruk is an avid motorcycle rider and understands firsthand the risks associated with riding on city streets and provincial highways in Alberta. Accidents involving motorcycles often result in severe consequences, particularly at intersections. Common scenarios include vehicles turning left in front of an oncoming motorcycle, rear-end collisions while a motorcycle is stopped, and lane changes into a lane already occupied by a rider.
What to do After a Motorcycle Accident
It is extremely important to gather evidence of a motorcycle accident and your injuries. Taking the right steps as soon as possible can help protect your health and strengthen any legal claim. If you have been involved in a motorcycle accident, you should:
- Call 911 immediately to report the motorcycle accident to the police or attend at the nearest police station to file a collision report;
- Exchange insurance and contact information with the other driver, and if possible, take photos of their driver’s license, registration, and insurance documents;
- Identify any witnesses at the accident scene and obtain their names and contact information;
- Take photographs of the accident scene, including your vehicle and all other vehicles involved, the license plates of all vehicles involved, the street view with road signs if possible, the road conditions, and any nearby signage;
- Notify your insurer of the accident as soon as possible; and
- Contact our office for a free consultation to ensure your rights are protected and you receive appropriate compensation for your injuries.
